Alpro

100% British Oats, 100% Delicious

Nothing tastes quite as good as home grown, wouldn’t you agree?

Here at Alpro, our philosophy has always been that ‘you can make a difference with just one sip. Or, in this case, ‘just one oat’. That’s why we’ve decided to bring it home to Britain and use 100% British oats in our drinks. Take a look at why we’ve decided to raise a toast to British oats and why we think you’ll be t-oat-ally here for it.

Supporting British Farmers

With so much rich landscape and agriculture right here in the UK, we’ve been spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting the perfect oats for your Alpro Oat Drinks.

And now that we’ve found high quality (and delicious, if we do say so ourselves) oats just down the road, we’re over the moon to use them in the production of our Alpro Oat Drink in our newly improved factory in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

Now, we get to collaborate with incredible local farmers (seriously, these folks grow great oats) and use these homegrown oats from British farms in the local oat mills. The result? One of our most oatilicious drinks yet. And with crops traditionally used for porridge oats, cereals and flapjacks, this means farmers have new avenues for their crops. It’s a win-win!

Our local investment will pour support back into the local farming community, and you’ll get 100% British and 100% delicious oats. Before our investment, just 1% of the oat drink market was guaranteed to be sourced from British crops. As the leading plant-based brand, Alpro’s commitment to local sourcing will significantly increase the percentage of British Oat drinks on the market – giving more locally sourced options to shoppers! Minimising food miles

We’re all trying to do our bit to improve sustainable food habits and production. Our switch to 100% British oats has also been driven by our commitment to reducing the number of food miles travelled by our creamy Alpro oat drinks before they reach your morning coffee, cuppa or cereal. Locally sourced from field to fridge.

By investing in British, we’ve minimised the mileage of our oats so that most of them come from an 80-mile radius of the mills in Kettering. Pretty impressive, right?

As well as making a positive difference, we want to keep the oats in your oat drinks as tasty as possible. We know how tired we feel after a long journey - we don’t want the same for your oats.

Our Oats are worth the boast

Oats can be seen as a more sustainable crop compared with other cereals. They’re often used in crop rotations - a sustainable farming practice to help maintain healthy soils on farm. In addition to this, they’re generally considered a low-input crop - requiring less fertiliser (2).

But whilst we’re doing well with our oats in terms of ecological impact, we’re by no means putting the brakes on. We can and want to do more. Across Europe Alpro is already involved in programmes supporting partners in the transition to regenerative farming. In the UK we're exploring how we can best support British farmers in this transition too.

Your beloved oats

You love them in your flat whites. You love them with your cereals. You might even love them on their own, ice-cold in a glass - you do you. And if you’ve not yet tried our delicious oat drinks, there’s never been a better time to give them a whirl as we put our best oat foot forward on home soil.

Start your day the right way

Rich in fibre, Alpro oat drinks are naturally low in saturated fat without ever sacrificing that oh-so-creamy and utterly scrummy flavour.

So, what’s so great about fibre?

Adults need around 30g of fibre each day. But most of us in the UK are coming up short at around an average of 20g a day (3). In fact, 9 out of 10 adults in the UK are not meeting their daily fibre needs (4).

Calcium

If you’re opting for a plant-based diet, you might be wondering how to get enough calcium during the day. We all need calcium to help maintain healthy bones* and teeth** and help our muscles to contract^ (including that all-important heartbeat). Calcium also ensures our blood clots effectively^^. As an adult, you should aim to have around 800 mg of calcium per day(5), and with 120 mg in every 100ml serving, Alpro oat drinks are a tasty way to help you get enough calcium in your diet or to help meet your daily recommended intake. And to top it off, just 100ml of our Alpro Oat drink provides 15% of the recommended intake for calcium, oatstanding!

*Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones. **Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal teeth. ^ Calcium contributes to normal muscle function. ^^ Calcium contributes to normal blood clotting. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle is recommended for good health.
